My Story

Mike Rountree was born and raised in a small west Texas town. He received musical education,
playing alto saxophone in the 6 th grade school band then switched to baritone saxophone in High
School. He continued playing saxophone at Texas Tech University where he received a BS degree
in chemistry and physics. Upon graduating from college, Mike taught Chemistry, Physics and
Mathematics in Texas public schools for ten years. In 1983 he joined Alcon Laboratories R&D
Analytical Chemistry Department, developing test methods and preparing documents for FDA
submissions. In 2008 Mike attended the initial meeting for the Alcon Jazz Ensemble (now
Maxwell Hall Jazz Band) and became a member, playing baritone saxophone. He is currently
retired from Alcon and serves as treasurer for the band.
